Designing with Color

When designing it's best to start in black and white to clarify your design, but what happens when you add color? That depends on what color you add. Color has the ability to influence emotions and mood, as well as has meaning that can be ascribed to it. Designers can use color to provoke specific emotions and influence the way viewers may see their service, product, or brand.

Red

The color red is associated with passion, vibrancy and boldness, love, and warmth. We also associate red with blood and therefore life. Famous examples of red logos include Coca-Cola, Target, Netflix, and Marvel.

Orange

Orange is also associated with warmth, as well as energy, cheerfulness, and fun. Famous examples of orange logos include Fanta, Nickelodeon, and Mastercard.

Yellow

Yellow is associated with warmth, joy, happiness, and optimism. Famous examples of yellow logos include McDonald's, Nikon, and Snapchat

Green

Green is associated with the earth, nature, peace, balance, and growth. Famous examples of green logos include Starbucks, Wholefoods, and the Holiday Inn.

Blue

The color blue is associated with trust, loyalty, calm, and strength. Famous examples of blue logos include Facebook, PayPal, Lowes, and American Express.

Purple

Purple is associated with creativity, wisdom, royalty, and mystery. Famous examples of purple logos include FedEx, TacoBell, Hallmark, and Twitch.

Pink

The color pink is associated with love, youthfulness, and playfulness. Famous examples of pink logos include LG, Lyft, and Barbie.

Brown

Brown is associated with dependability, nature, warmth, and security. Famous examples of brown logos include UPS, Cotton, M&Ms, and Louis Vuitton.

Black

Black is associated with power, strength, authority, tradition, and elegance. Famous examples of black logos include Chanel, Apple, and Nike. Since logos are typically designed in black and white you can also see these logos with variants in white.

White
